Terrain Spotlight - The Fountain
Amidst the ruins of the street, an old fountain dedicated to some General now forgotten. Descecrated by enemies of the Empire, or those driven mad by wyrdstone. A victim lies nearby, slumped over the stones. A stark reminder of the brutality of the ruined city.
Greetings! Many have asked about the fountain that I built for our Mordheim games! Okay, full disclosure, no one has asked about it, but dammit I want to show it off, and that's what part of this blog is all about - showcasing custom built terrain! Credit where credit is due: this fountain design is from Black Magic Craft, and I finally just got around to building it! If you haven't seen Jeremy's video on building this fountain, or have never seen a Black Magic Craft video, check out his channel! Link at the very bottom to the video in question.
This is Mordehim. No one is welcome.

Essentially, I built the fountain as he describes in his video with little change. And it turned out great!
The fountain is simply dollar tree foam core (the type of foam core you can peel the paper off). I followed Jeremy's template to the letter and had no problems pulling off the basic shape, and the paint job was dead easy: I covered the entire thing with modpodge and black acrylic paint, and then drybrushed a few shades of grey and off-white on the corners. I decided that I wanted a statue in the middle, so I built a small column - in hindsight I wish I would have built it a bit higher, but oh well.
I used a Empire army dude, and chopped his head off, with the idea that someone along the way had deliberatly taken umbridge with this statue of some General and defaced it. I also found a shield emblem in my bits box, and used that for the front of the pillar.
Now, I had a cool idea for an embellishment: what if some poor unfortunate had been killed while near the fountain? I grabbed an old GW zombie (love those dudes!) and did some hot-air bending of his legs so he could lie on the fountain. Found some arrows in my assortment of bits, and viola! A victim! Painted him up real quick and he was ready for his close up.
Next up, pour some resin into the fountain, stick the pillar in place, and then glue the statue and victim down. I pushed the severed head and the blade from the statue into the resin. The resin was just a cheap two-part epoxy that you can buy at Dollerama and it works great! I tinted it a bit brown, and sure it's a bit bubbly but who cares, it's a rotting, festering fountain. I made a greenish patina coloured paint, and washed the statue with it, and had it running down the piller in a few places. And then painted some faded red around the victim for dried blood as the final finishing touch. And there you have it! I was very pleased with how this piece of terrain came out, and it looks great on the table!
