Terrain Spotlight - Ruined Houses ala Eric Style

 Ruined houses lined the streets of Mordheim now, empty of their contents save for rats and other unsavoury vermin. While others stood somewhat intact, the majority were shells of their former selves. Crumbling plaster walls, shattered windows, crumbled piles of bricks, fire ravaged or otherwise. These domiciles were home to no one and nothing. But they continued to have a purpose, as hiding places and barricades for the warbands who now flooded the city looking for wyrdstone.

Welcome to another Terrain Spotlight! This entry looks at two ruined houses that I built, based off the template from Eric's Hobby Workshop on YouTube! The smaller one was my first attempt, and actually was a failed attempt at the second one with the partial roof! When you build Mordheim terrain, there are no mistakes, just happy accidental other ruins. 😆

I don't have progress shots of the first one, but it was very similar to the second.
These buildings were built with Dollar Tree foam core, the paper peeled off and textured with a ball of aluminum foil. I used balsa wood for many of the beams, and coffee stir sticks for the floor boards and wall panels (and around the doors/windows). Shingles were simple cardstock.
A quick, simple paint job and viola! Ruined houses!
 

You'll notice a little surprise inside the partially roofed building. A little warning to my friend Matt who is playing a skaven warband! Lol!

I'm looking forward to building more of these over the next few weeks. These ones are 10cm x 10cm which is a good size, but I might build a few that are a bit bigger. And of course, I have plans for OTHER types of buildings...bricked buildings, a ruined tavern, a ruined chapel! Oh the possibilities are endless!

On Monday, May 15, 2023, the Witch Hunters, The Flames of the Redemption , resumed their patrols of the City of the Damned, this time through the West Gate and near the Memorial Gardens. In the meantime, the Reiklander mercenaries, Dietrich's Dogs , were exploring the dwarven district and also making their way towards the Memorial Gardens. Rumours of wyrdstone in the area had reached both warbands, and so it was inevitable that they would run afoul of each other! Scenario 3: Wyrdstone Hunt commenced! This was one of the standard scenarios from the book: Four pieces of wyrdstone (represented by very cool models created by our friend Mark many, many, MANY moons ago) were placed on the board, and then Greg set up his Witch Hunters and Perry set up his Reiklander mercenaries on the opposite side. The First Skirmish!

Our first skirmish, Monday, February 6, 2023 , was between Perry's Reiklanders and Jay's Cult of the Possessed. It was a night of learning the rules and showing off some new custom terrain. And bloodshed. The streets at the outer edge of the city of Mordheim were set for the first Monday night delve. Two warbands immediately ran into each other, a company of Reiklander mercenaries, and a band of Cultists of the Possessed! There was bloodshed, screams, and many knockouts! This area of the City of the Damned had a variety of obstacles, ruins and interesting structures. The two warbands emerged from opposite sides of the wide street once known as Klugenn Way, named for the fountain sporting the statue of General Klugenn who fought in one of the wars against the orc warlord Kragnox the Insufferable. Witch Hunters vs Reiklanders! The 11th Skirmish!

On Monday, July 22, 2024 (almost 3 months since the last skirmish!) Greg’s Witch Hunters and Perry’s Reiklanders were both in the middle of scavenging the ruined city, and were already on their way back to their respective camps with some wyrdstone, when both groups suddenly ran into each other in the Artisan Quarter. Weapons were drawn and warcries exchanged as warriors on both sides charged forwards! And Scenario 6: Chance Encounter began! This was the first time the scenario was played. A standard scenario from the core book, each warband is on their way back after already scavenging d3 wyrdstone (each warband in this case rolled 2). Witch Hunters set up first (after a d6 roll to determine who was first) in one quarter of the table. Reiklanders then set up in the opposite corner quarter, and couldn’t be closer than 12” to any enemy model (upon review...it appears I totally F'd up and had at least 3 figures in the wrong quarter, sigh.
